One reason that I love Thanksgiving so much is that it serves as an awesome gateway to the Christmas season. We spend the month of November thinking about our blessings and then, with grateful hearts, we enter the season of giving.
I have seen a meme that makes fun of Americans for being thankful for all they have one day and then flooding the stores to buy more stuff the next day. While the irony is not lost on me, I choose to look at it in a more positive light. Many of us look at the gift giving of the holidays as a true expression of gratitude for those we love. Yes, it can get a little bit crazy because we’re all buying gifts at the same time, but I think that’s what makes holiday shopping so fun. We are all on a similar quest – looking for that perfect something to show gratitude for a special person in our lives. Yes, I know that some would argue that it doesn’t take an ITEM to show someone that you’re grateful for them. I agree wholeheartedly. But the gift giving of Christmas just makes my heart HAPPY!
I guess what I’m saying is….I plan to soak up those extra feelings of gratitude tomorrow and use those thankful thoughts to keep my gift buying in perspective throughout this upcoming Christmas season.
