Summer Bucket List 2017 – Final Update

summer bucket list 2017

This summer I have decided to share our family’s bucket list (and progress) with you.  We might get around to everything on this list.  We might not.  All I know is that with each thing that our family is able to check off this list, we are showing cancer who’s boss (hence my unofficial title for our summer bucket list – – the “Cancer Can Suck It” list).  Click here to check out our other Summer Bucket List 2017 posts!

Well, the big kids had their first day of school today, so I guess it’s time for one last summer bucket list update.  Over the past couple of weeks since the last update, we were able to complete two more items from our list.

GO TO THE ZOO

My parents treated all six of their local grandkids to a trip to the zoo, so I tagged along as an extra pair of eyes.  We had so much fun!  Every time I go to the zoo, I vow to myself to go more often.

It was very warm on the day of our visit to the zoo, so many of the animals were just lounging around in the shade.  The giraffes never disappoint, though; they are always out and about, looking for something to munch.  Hmmm….tall girls with food as their main motivation for movement….sounds awfully familiar.

HAVE  A GOOD OLD-FASHIONED PICNIC

One day around lunchtime, the weather was perfect for a picnic.  So we packed up our lunch in a basket, grabbed a blanket and drove to our favorite park.  The only thing that would have made it better would have been having Mr. Blue Eyes there to join us!

Remember when I told you about my difficulty with summer bucket lists?  This is the time when I would normally feel bad for the things that we didn’t get checked off the list.  I will admit, I still have to resist the urge to focus on the things we DIDN’T finish.  So, instead of showing you my whole list (including the things we didn’t accomplish), I’m going to give you one last look at all of the fun we were able to have in spite of my cancer treatments.  Suck it, cancer!

The kids also went to the movies with Mr. Blue Eyes, but I forgot to have him snap a picture.

So now we say so long to summer days.  This will be a summer that we will remember…for many reasons.  My hope for the kids is that they remember these fun things more than the fact that their mom had cancer treatment all summer.

What was your favorite thing that your family did this summer?  I’d love to hear about it in the comments below!
