Hi, everyone! It’s been a busy few months since I last posted on the blog. We got back from vacation and my life just jumped from one ”big thing” to another. I have some posts coming your way that go into more detail, but for now I will give you a quick update:
The week after returning from Disneyland, I had surgery to swap out my tissue expanders for implants. This was an emotional roller coaster for which I wasn’t truly prepared. Let’s just say my world was rocked for a good month (more on this soon).
After recovering from my surgery, we had a busy month with end-of-the-school-year festivities and responsibilities. But, for some reason, I decided that it was a good time to start a side hustle. (I don’t know what’s wrong with me….I can’t seem to have just one iron in the fire at a time.) Even though the timing wasn’t all that wise, I found the PERFECT job for me! I am now working from home in the early morning (teaching English to kids in China) while my kids are still asleep. Seriously, you guys….it is the most fun I’ve had working in a LONG time. I’ve got some more information coming your way about this as well!
In super exciting news….I have a new niece! A baby to snuggle! I will admit that it felt like my heart was being ripped out the first time I rounded the corner into the maternity ward to visit her mom during labor (apparently I’m still processing the fact that I won’t be having any more babies). But as soon as I held that little munchkin, it was like chicken soup for my menopausal soul. And the best part is that this little gal only lives two blocks away from me! 🙂
Then summer started! We devised our summer bucket list (which we formatted into a BINGO board). We started having fun marking things off and then I looked at the forecast. We were supposed to have PERFECT 70-degree weather with NO RAIN for over a week. I decided that this would be the perfect window to paint the exterior of our house. (Why, oh why, do I do this to myself?!) A good portion of my summer so far has been spent holding a paint brush.
There is a good chance that we won’t be living in this house for very long, so we have had to be super careful in deciding how to spend our home improvement dollars. I think covering up the bright yellow was money well spent in making our home more marketable. What do you think? (Obviously, next on the list is taking care of our landscape.)
Now that the painting is done, we are back to filling up our Bucket List Bingo sheet! We’ve been in a parade, visited family, and had a backyard campout at Grandma’s house. We even took the kids to their first rodeo. We have also enjoyed a slower daily schedule, with plenty of time for hanging out in the backyard, doing nothing in particular. Mr. Blue Eyes has this week off, so we went on a hike a couple of days ago. Yesterday was bike riding. And today we’re off to the coast for a few hours to escape the summer heat that has finally arrived in our neck of the woods.
I can’t believe July is almost half over! Time continues to tick by faster than I would like, but we’re savoring these moments as much as we can.
How has your summer been going?
