I know it’s been quiet around the blog for the past month or so.
One reason is that I wanted to savor the holidays with my family. The Christmas season now triggers some pretty big feelings for me, since it was just a few days before Christmas two years ago that I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I wanted to be centered for my family, so that meant keeping them at the center of my focus for the past couple of months.
The other reason for the slower pace of new content is that I have been busy behind the scenes of this little blog of mine. I have done a TON of work on things that aren’t visible to you, but I’m really excited about. (You can see some of my work on Pinterest if you follow me there!)
No matter where I’ve been, I’m pumped about where I’m GOING this year. If you remember, I like to have a word to focus on throughout the year (last year’s word was “celebrate”). I have been thinking a lot about what word I wanted to use to direct the focus of my life this year and I finally found it:
Do you ever get overwhelmed by the sheer amount of things that you DON’T KNOW?! Having super-curious children reminds me daily that the world is full of things that are just waiting to be discovered!
I feel that sometimes I get bogged down in day-to-day living and I forget what a gift we have been given to live in such an amazing world. I want to take more advantage of that fact!
I went back and forth on whether or not I wanted to set actual goals with regard to my word of the year, or if I just wanted to go through 2019 soaking in whatever my dried-up sponge of a brain could find.
You know me….I decided to give myself some direction. So, without further ado, here are my goals for 2019:
LEARN TO KNIT
The special educator in me has to have a measurable goal, so I will know I’ve “learned” to knit when I have created one final product that I feel comfortable gifting to someone else. (Someone who is NOT related to me. Haha)
I have attempted to knit a few times in my past. I LOVE to crochet, but for some reason I struggle with knitting.
Do you have any tips or awesome YouTube channels that could help me? Feel free to send them my direction!
LEARN TO USE A NEW MEAL PLANNING PROGRAM
You guys….I am SOOOOO excited about this new program that I just found. Once I’ve learned the ropes and decided if it’s as awesome as I think it will be, I’m going to share it with you. It’s important to me that I only recommend things that I’ve tried and LOVED.
LEARN MORE ABOUT BLOGGING
I have been a blog owner for three years now (does time really go that fast?!) and I honestly feel like I haven’t done much with it. Some of my posts have gained traction on Pinterest and I have been touched at the number of readers who have reached out to me in gratitude for information that I’ve shared.
That’s why I continue to do this!
I know that I’m nothing special, but I’ve found that there is something in everyone’s story that can be beneficial to someone else. We just have to find those people! So……..I have made the commitment to myself that I will do more with this little piece of internet real estate. I want to reach (and help) more people!
As I mentioned before, I’ve been doing a lot of work on the blog behind the scenes lately. This has opened my eyes to just how much I DON’T know about coding, web design, SEO, and blogging in general. My plan is to take 6 blogging-related courses this year. I don’t know if I’ll be sharing the results of these courses on the blog (because I don’t want to have a blog about blogging), but I am looking forward to what I learn!
LEARN TO PLAY THE UKULELE
My kiddos stay at school late a few days a week for various music lessons. Mini-Me started the ukulele this past fall and it looks so fun! I would love to learn how to play the ukulele version of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” by the end of the year. Even if I crash and burn, I’m looking forward to some jam sessions with Mini-Me!
READ TWELVE NON-FICTION BOOKS
I will admit that non-fiction books are not typically my jam. I like to learn tidbits tucked among an awesome story line, so historical fiction is my thing. (In fact, my favorite Christmastime surprise was discovering that they are re-releasing my favorite author’s books as “Rediscovered Classics”).
Even though I’d prefer historical fiction, I know that I need to give non-fiction another try. There are so many things to learn about and reading is an awesome way to do that! I have several topics that I want to study this year, so I’m looking forward to getting started.
My plan is to read one book per month, but I am measuring this goal as a total number of books because life happens. Hopefully I’m not trying to jam ten books into December!
Have you read any awesome non-fiction books that you’d think I enjoy? Drop the title in the comments below!
LEARN MORE ABOUT JESUS CHRIST
I’m not going to put a number on this goal, because I have no idea what I will find! Jesus Christ is always at the heart of our studies and faith, but (as with any person or subject) there is always more to learn. Our family is focusing our studies on the New Testament this year, so I’m excited to focus on the life and mortal ministry of our Savior.
Now, these are my personal goals and I know they’re probably not all that interesting to anyone but me. I share them because it adds a certain level of accountability for me.
I probably won’t be blogging much about my goal progress this year. Instead, be on the lookout for more tips to help you save minutes and savor moments. We’re going to be diving into the nitty gritty of once-a-month grocery shopping, meal planning, and the cleaning routine I use to keep my house under control. I’m also shelling out some of my own cash to do some unsponsored product reviews. The kids and I will be testing out fun ideas that we find on Pinterest. Later this year, there is also going to be an opportunity for YOU to teach us something (and earn a little spending money).
I hope that my corner of the internet can be a source of learning for more people this year! As you read my upcoming posts, if you think of someone who might be interested in my blog, please consider inviting them to like my Facebook page or follow me on Pinterest.
