I have been an Amazon Prime member for going on three years. It took me a long time to pull the trigger because I didn’t think I would get my money’s worth. Like many people, I didn’t think I needed to pay a yearly fee for free two-day shipping; I didn’t shop online enough. Turns out there is SO MUCH MORE to Amazon Prime membership than shipping:
Free Two-Day Shipping – My favorite part of the two-day shipping is that I don’t have to worry about getting to a minimum dollar amount in order to avoid shipping charges. This means that I can order small items and not worry about spending more on shipping than I do for the actual item (used books being a perfect example of this!). As most of you might know, not every item is eligible for Prime shipping, so you have to be careful when ordering. Amazon makes it easy to filter your search results to show ONLY those items that are eligible for Prime shipping.
Prime Video – This is Amazon’s version of Netflix, and access to this video streaming service is free with Amazon Prime membership. Since I pay $9.99 a month for Netflix, I think it’s a bargain to have access to Prime Video as part of my $10.99 per month fee for Amazon Prime.
Prime Music – This has turned out to be the feature of Amazon Prime membership that I use the most regularly. I have expressed my love for Prime Music in two different posts so far (read them here and here). I know that there are many music streaming services, but I love the fact that Prime Music is FREE with a membership I already have. It is ad free and I can even download the music to my device (within the app) so that I don’t have to stream all of the time. I love creating my own playlists bur I often browse their many, many curated playlists to find the perfect fit for my activities (like “Classical Music for Reading” or “90s Music for Runners”…Haha, just joking. I’m not a runner. But they do have that playlist! ).
Prime Early Access – Amazon has awesome lightning deals (huge discounts on specific items available for a limited time), and many of them sell out quickly. As an Amazon Prime member, I receive early access to these deals, giving me a head start on the best ones!
Audible for Prime Members – A membership to Audible costs $14.95 per month (as of the date of this post), but they have a special section of free content for Prime members. All you need is the Audible app to get started! As an added bonus, Prime Members get 40% off Audible Membership from June 29, 2017 through July 11, 2017, so you can give full Audible membership a try at a discounted rate for six months. Or you can Try Audible and Get Two Free Audiobooks.
Prime Reading – A Prime membership also allows for access to the Prime Reading catalog, which is selected content from the Kindle Unlimited catalog. Even though it is selected content, there is plenty there to keep a person busy, with a great selection of books and magazines available to borrow. The best part? You don’t even need to have a Kindle. Just download the Kindle reading app onto your device and you’re good to go. You can read more about Prime Reading here. You can also download the Kindle reading app by following this link —> Amazon.com – Read eBooks using the FREE Kindle Reading App on Most Devices.
Prime Photos – I haven’t given this Prime benefit a try yet, but it’s on my to-do list. With Amazon Prime membership you get free and unlimited photo storage through Prime Photos. You can even organize and share them with up to five family members or friends, so that you can build and share your photo collection together. Have any of you tried it? What do you think?
Prime Day – Did you know there is a WHOLE DAY devoted to Prime members? It is a day full of Lightning Deals, discounts, and other promotions that can only be accessed through a Prime membership. This year, Prime Day starts at 9PM Eastern on July 10th and goes through July 11th. There are even some promotions leading up to Prime Day, and I will be sharing some of those with you as they come up. This would be a perfect time to start a 30-day free trial because you would have it for Prime Day and would still have plenty of time to try the other Prime benefits. Fire TV Stick – Does the thought of all of these perks have your head spinning? Are you a person who doesn’t use a smart phone, so you think that you won’t get a lot of use out of some of these benefits? Well, I’m going to show you one of my favorite devices that has helped me access many of the Prime benefits in one spot (and it’s not my iPhone): the Amazon Fire TV Stick.
I love this thing! If your TV has an HDMI input and you have WiFi, then you’re ready to turn your TV into a Prime wonderland! You can stream your music, access your photos, and watch TV and movies all from one device. It also has the capability to download the apps for other programs (like Netflix and Hulu) so you can stream everything in one spot. So handy!
So Much More! There are a lot of other perks that I haven’t mentioned here, because they’re either not available in my area or I haven’t used them yet. See?! That’s what is so awesome about Amazon Prime – – I haven’t even accessed all of the perks and I STILL feel like I’m getting my money’s worth.
